Assessment of differences in anatomical and hydraulic properties of the root and xylem of three willow (Salix L.) clones during phytostabilization after exposure to elevated cadmium

An anatomical study of adventitious roots three Salix clones, ?B-44?, ?SV068? and ?SM4041?, treated with 3 6 mg Cd kg-1 dry weight in soil was performed a greenhouse experiment. The aim to analyze the characteristics response pollution by cadmium assess potential application hydraulic selection most suitable clones for phytostabilization pollutants soils. Anatomical parameters measured this included root cross-sectional area, diameter, proportion periderm, secondary phloem (cortex) wood (secondary primary xylem), vessels (lumen diameter frequency). Based on measurements individual vessel lumens number vessels, theoretical conductivity (kh) calculated. effects applied concentrations traits were studied control plants. Following treatments both concentrations, plants clone ?B-44? had highest values significantly higher kh comparison samples due larger area lumen vessels. It concluded that these can serve effective evaluation remediation sites contaminated cadmium.
